Do not remember the former things,
or consider the things of old.
I am about to do a new thing;
now it springs forth, do you not perceive it?
I will make a way in the wilderness
and rivers in the desert.
– Isaiah 43: 18-19
Eye exams are cool because they are such a perfect metaphor for the spiritual journey. They put that Star Wars-like piece of equipment in front of your eyes and flip the lenses – cachunk, cachunk – and suddenly, you can see!!
In the same vein, did you ever need glasses and put off getting them and by the time you did, your drive home from the doctor’s office was magical because everything was so pretty and you hadn’t even really noticed how dull things had become because it happened so gradually and you had gotten used to it??
Yes, I have some familiarity with these things. 🙂
Holy Scripture tells us God is about to do a new thing. We are encouraged to not cling to the past, and the prophet even says, can’t you see?? There it is!!
So, friends – what is it you see?
Prayer: God, give us eyes to see and open hearts to welcome, and God, help us grow and grow and grow, according to your will and good purpose. We trust and love you, God. Amen.
Your beautiful lyrics to I Choose Love were used today at St. Stephens Episcopal Church in Vestavia Hills. Thank you and Mark for your art.
