Praying for peace.
Praying for strength.
May we never give up.
But they kept urgently demanding with loud shouts that he should be crucified;
and their voices prevailed.
— Luke 23:23
I do not want their voices to prevail.
Not then, not now.
Who are they, anyway,
and why do they get to tell Pilate what to do?
Since when does Loud absolutely necessitate Action?
The voices are still there, you know.
Call these collective voices
evil, darkness, proof of a fallen world.
Call them addictions, distractions, destructive patterns of behavior.
Call them greed, vanity, keeping up with the Joneses.
Call them the lure of the modern world,
or even just old tapes in your head that play over and over . . .
call them whatever they are for you,
but call them.
Call them out,
shine light on them,
stand face to face with them.
The voices are still urgently demanding
with loud shouts.
