What Shines

What life and God can teach us
will not be hurried,
cannot be manufactured,
is not a diamond that will appear at will
at the insistence of the powers that be
in a certain place and time
because it seems like this is a good place to “discover” a diamond
and we certainly can’t trust God to provide.

The thinking appears to be,
we will take what we have at hand,
whatever raw materials,
collectively compress it as hard as possible,
and extrude that diamond
at any cost,
not considering
whatever change might take place
in the raw materials –
what fears, what scars, what wells of distrust
that may litter their paths
going forward.

Do they not know,
have they not heard
that God is good,
and God’s steadfast love endures forever,
and that to find
(or become)
a diamond,
one need only go to the heart location
where wisdom consistently asserts these things have taken place,
sit quietly with eyes wide open
and wait for what shines?
