O Come All Ye Faithful

O come all ye faithful,
forgetful or fearful;
o come those who aren’t quite yet sure they believe.
O come and be with us,
(yes, we too are seekers) —
come gather together to give and receive.

There are no credentials
(in case you were worried),
there’s nothing that you have to read or to sign.
There’s no secret handshake,
no test of your knowledge,
no moment when you must put all on the line.

You know in your marrow
(you’ve known it since childhood)
that there is a meaning beyond what we see.
In moments of quiet,
you’ve felt that awareness,
that flash of astonishment even to be.

It’s safe to explore here,
debate is most welcome,
and lest you believe that no one here has doubt,
please know, we’re all human,
we’re in this together,
we’re each of us trying to figure life out.

The one thing you will need
is patience with mystery,
for God is not readable like headline news.
No, God’s not a being
our minds can encompass
nor is God a concept we mindlessly choose.

Yes, God is far bigger
than what we imagine
more loving, more gentle, more quick to forgive.
Gaspingly powerful
mighty yet merciful
woven through all we require to live.

So come, all ye faithful,
all yes, no or maybe,
no matter how far you have happened to roam.
Your welcome is certain,
so come now and join us,
draw near to the love and warm lamplight of home.
