Everyone who believes that Jesus is the Christ has been born of God, and everyone who loves the parent loves the child. By this we know that we love the children of God, when we love God and obey his commandments. For the love of God is this, that we obey his commandments. And his commandments are not burdensome, for whatever is born of God conquers the world. And this is the victory that conquers the world, our faith.

– 1 John 5:1-4

Whatever is born of God conquers the world.

So whatever is not born of God will not, cannot, conquer the world.

However it may look in the moment, whatever is born of God conquers the world.  And as we read last week, God is love.  Love in us is certainly born of God; from nowhere else can love come, since God is love.

So we can trust that love will win, and we can love our way toward the victory that conquers the world by having faith, by being willing to start over when we find we’ve missed the mark, and by refusing to do anything but love one another.

May it be so.  Amen.

Prayer:  God, help us love you well.  Teach us how to love each other.  Thank you for all in this world that is born of you.  We trust you; help us trust you more.  Amen.
